I started Kyoko Coffee because I love Japan, Japanese culture, coffee, and cars, and saw a unique opportunity to bring all of them together to deliver happiness in a cup from the adorable timeless form factor of a KEI car I named Kyoko.

Kyoko has had a more interesting journey though than myself. Hailing from Japan where she was a family car and work van, she was transported to Washington State where she was also used as a work van, until I bought her and made her a part of my family.

Kyoko has hauled lumber for countless projects, a Piano from Redding, California to Portland, Oregon, but most importantly, she carried my child as a daily driver for 5 years, before deciding to take on the coffee world in full force.

This is Kyoko’s biggest journey yet, and I’m so excited to share the joy with the good people of Austin, Texas, and beyond.

From my last day in Osaka where I sampled some incredible coffee from some very gracious and intensely talented baristas to my first day in Onomichi where I had arguably the best cup of coffee by Yutaka (@pour_specialty_coffee) so far, with the possible exception of the pour over prepared for my by Taisun (@taisun_dripclassic) in Osaka. (The two best pour overs without a doubt!). Once again, the incredible cafes are listed below in the order that discovers them. Ya know, just in case you feel like visiting 5 plus cafes in 6 hours or less 😂🫶. Osaka Cafes: 1. @osarucoffee - very cute spot for food and coffee. Great vibe. 2. @tasogare_coffee_jp - cool building but I’m refraining from posting pictures because I didn’t enjoy my experience. There was 0 Omotenashii ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 3. @roygbiv.coffee - Aki was so wonderful and she just started her journey. Please go see her ❤️. 4. @lilocoffee - Amazing coffee, amazing staff! The vibe was outstanding. 5. @melcoffeeroasters - great coffee and baristas but they were so busy I wasn’t able to get a photo of them 😭. 6. @takamura_coffee_roasters (at the Takamura Wine & Coffee location). I love this building - big, open, with exposed beams, and with plenty of room for their patrons. Used as both a wine store and their Roasterie, I had some fantastic coffee and wine from Japan! It was awesome! Onomichi: There are many Kissaten style coffee shops as well as some newer modern coffee shops in Onomichi, for a truly impressive specialty coffee experience, you must go to Pour Specialty Coffee. Yutaka is one of the best baristas I’ve ever seen. His attention to detail is truly impressive.
